WHAT IS PARVO VIRUS?

Parvo is a very common and highly contagious viral canine disease that is caused by a parvo virus and usually spread through contact with infected feces.

Canine parvovirus (CPV) attacks the intestinal tract, white blood cells, and in some cases the heart muscle. The time from exposure to the parvovirus to the development of symptoms is somewhere in the 3 to 14 day range. The virus damages the intestinal lining and causes severe abdominal pain.

The parvo virus is most common in places where dogs congregate such as parks, animal shelters or even at dog shows. Protecting and boosting your dog’s immune system is key in defending against parvo and treating the illness.
